YOUR WEDDING CAKE QUESTIONS ANSWERED

GENERAL

How far in advance should I book my wedding cake

Contrary to advise in most wedding magazines and blogs, you should consider booking your wedding cake 12 to 18 months before your wedding date. If you have a particular cake designer in mind for your cake, contact them as soon as you know your wedding date and venue to discuss securing your date.

How should I choose who I want to make my wedding cake?

You should consider a few things when choosing your cake designer, what is your budget? – ask for a quote or check guide prices on their website

What visually appeals to you? – if you like a modern style then pick a designer that has a portfolio of these style cakes, if you like a more traditional style, pick a designed who has a strong portfolio of these

What style or vibe is your wedding? Most cake makers have a style and it should match your own

How are their reviews? Have they got positive reviews to reassure you of their credibility

Are they experienced in wedding cakes – not all cake makers are experienced at producing tiered cake

How many should my wedding cake serve?

If you are not intending on your cake being served as a dessert, I recommend that you dont need to serve all of your guests a portion of cake, just the majority. As some won’t like cake, some will be too drunk and I have never had anyone day they didn’t have enough cake

How much should I budget for my wedding cake?

If you are looking to book a design led wedding cake, as opposed a generic semi naked or white cake, you should consider budgeting at least £700 for your cake and all that comes with it. My average wedding cake costs around £980 inclusive of everything

Do I have to have fondant on my cake? I don't like fondant...

No, you can have a ganache finish to your cake instead if you would prefer, however the way you cut up a wedding cake (like a grid) there will be inner slices that have little or no icing and outer slices that have lots of icing, so don’t let your dislike of fondant put you off having this covering on your cake as it is easy to avoid when eating.

Do I have to have fruit cake for my wedding?

Most definitely not… it is rare now that couples opt for a fruit cake option within their wedding cake. Most go for sponge flavours and I encourage different flavours per tier as who doesn’t love cake?

DO  YOU?

Do you offer cake tasters?

Yes, all booked couples will receive a luxury tasting box to have an opportunity to choose their cake flavours.

Do you offer dietary requirement cakes

I offer reduced gluten and reduced dairy cakes for some of my flavour menu. This means that the cake is made without the ingredients (dairy or gluten) but as all of my cakes are baked in a kitchen that regularly deals with these allergens, I can not guarantee no traces.
I do not supply vegan or eggless cakes.

Do you make buttercream finish cakes?

No… I only make ganache finish or fondant finish cakes

Do you make favours and dessert tables?

Yes I offer baked goods as favours and dessert tables, please get in touch to discuss your idea.

Do you offer cake stand hire?

Yes I offer (and strongly advise) that my couples hire a cake stand for their wedding cake. I have a wide range of styles and sizes to suit all designs of cake.
The hire fee is £15 and you are required to pay a refundable deposit of the value of the stand which is refunded upon safe return.

PRACTICAL

What geographical areas do you cover?

I am based on the Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire border and regularly deliver to the South West, Cotswolds and Wales.
I do deliver nationwide, this is just reflected in the delivery costs

Do you offer consultations?

Yes, all wedding couples are offered a wedding cake consultation, this can be in person at the Perfect Cakes Studio in Tenbury Wells or online.

How do I check my wedding date is available?

Send an enquiry via the wedding cakes page and I will be able to advise if tour wedding date is available

Do you have a minimum spend for cake?

Yes, I have a minimum spend of £600 + delivery for wedding cakes in 2025 and £700 + delivery in 2026/2027. For occasion cakes I have a minimum spend of £200

HOW DO I SECURE MY WEDDING DATE?

To secure your wedding date we require a £100 security deposit, until this is received your date is not secure in the diary

Can I collect my wedding cake?

I allow collection of 1 or 2 teir wedding cakes, but any bigger requires delivery as the cake is assembled at the venue.
I advise against collection as who needs that stress on their wedding day, but if a 1 or 2 tier is collected, Perfect Cakes holds no responsibility for the cake once it has left the premises.

How does delivery and set up work?
We all know how stressful it can be on the morning of your wedding, and the last thing you want to worry about is whether your wedding cake is going to arrive in one piece, and this is why you should leave it to the professionals.

In the morning of your wedding (of an alternative time if arranged) I will deliver and set up your beautiful wedding cake in the agreed location at your venue and make sure it is perfect ready for the big reveal.

The venue or an appropriate person will be left with a clear cutting guide which includes all the important information that they will need relating to your cake along with any return packaging that may be required

Delivery and setup costs are dependent on location and design of cake and are quoted on enquiry.
